About Us
El Zota Biological Field Station, Costa Rica
El Zota is located in the heart of the tropical rain forest in northeastern Costa Rica (10ο 33,437 ‘44,177-83rd’) Near Tortuguero National park and Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge.
El Zota has about 1,000 hectares of tropical rain forest with an extend biodiversity, where our visitors will find out about numerous quantity of flora and fauna.
It has many different habitats like natural lagoons, rivers, swamps, primary forest, secondary forest, and reforestation areas with native species.
El Zota’s area has been under protection since 2000. Approximately 500 hectares composed of primary forest. El Zota shares its borders with Barra Del Colorado Wild Refuge, which is a valuable strategy to unify both conservation areas and help avoid the fragmentation of this forest.
Mission
Create awareness in the surrounding towns about the importance of preserving the natural resources. Also, help and teach schools to participate in forestry and ecological projects with the collaboration of national and international universities.
Vision
Be a private station with the biggest protection area of natural and regenerate habitats in the Caribbean.
